Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025, which converted into law legislative Decree-No. 36 of March 28, 2025, with amendments, introduced important changes to Law No. 91 of February 5, 1992.
The principle of transmission of Italian citizenship by descent (iure sanguinis) remains in effect; however, for those born abroad who hold another citizenship, recognition is now subject to the conditions set forth in the new Article 3-bis of Law No. 91/1992.
