BEFORE STARTING TO COLLECT ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY.
The procedure for acquiring Italian citizenship by marriage (iure matrimonii ) requires that all the requested documents be collected correctly, consistently, and in compliance with legal requirements.
Particular attention is drawn to the following:
- Some documents have limited validity in time; in particular, criminal records must have been issued no more than 6 months prior to the application’s submission;
- For this reason, it is recommended not to begin the collection of the documents before carefully verifying which documents are actually required and in what form they must be submitted;
- All personal data must be consistent across all documentation presented; in case of discrepancies between the first and last names reported in the documents (for example, due to name changes, or the use of different names, or the omission of middle names, or due to marriage, or other vital records’ changes), it is necessary to verify in advance, with this office, what additional documentation will be required;
- Any discrepancies that are not adequately explained may result in the rejection of the application or the request for additional information;
For any questions, especially regarding personal data discrepancies or specific situations, please contact the Citizenship Office before starting the document collection process at washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it
IT IS RECOMMENDED TO PROCEED WITH THE REQUEST OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION ONLY AFTER YOU ARE REASONABLY CERTAIN THAT YOU CAN COMPLETE AND UPLOAD ALL THE DOCUMENTATION WITHIN THE REQUIRED TIMELINE.
