Welcome to the section dedicated to consular services.
Consular services are provided exclusively on the basis of residence. To check which consulate is the right one to contact, have a look at our consular network.
The Consular Office at the Embassy in Washington DC is responsible for providing consular services for Italian and foreign citizens residing in the District of Columbia; in Maryland, only Montgomery and Prince George’s counties (all other counties fall under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia); in Virginia, only Arlington and Fairfax counties, the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church, and the City of Fairfax (all other counties fall under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia).
For ease of browsing, we have divided the various services provided into two sections, those for Italian citizens and those for foreign citizens.
Each menu option contains useful information to request specific services and the email address to write to if you have any questions.
Some consular services require the payment of a consular fee, to be paid preferably in money orders or certified cashier’s checks (particularly for passports and entry visas). Money orders and certified cashier’s checks must be made out to “Embassy of Italy” and include the reason for payment.
The fees for consular services are set out in the following tables:
- Updated consular table pursuant to Legislative Decree 221/2016
- Consular table excerpt (3rd quarter 2023)
- Consular fee for issuing an Italian passport
- The consular fee for applying for recognition of “Iure Sanguinis” citizenship in the period from July 1 to September 30, 2023 is equal to 326.60 dollars. Payment must be made at the consular office on the day of the appointment by cashier’s check or money order made out to “Embassy of Italy, Washington DC”.
Happy browsing!
