- Birth certificate extract of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad, issued by the Italian municipality where he or she was born;
- Birth certificates, accompanied by an official Italian translation, of all direct line descendants, including that of the person claiming Italian citizenship;
- Marriage certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad, accompanied by an official Italian translation if issued abroad;
- Marriage certificates of his or her direct line descendants, including that of the parents of the person claiming Italian citizenship;
- Certificate issued by the competent authorities of the foreign country of emigration, accompanied by an official Italian translation, certifying that the Italian ancestor who emigrated from Italy did not acquire citizenship of the foreign country of emigration before the birth of the applicant’s ancestor;
- Certificate issued by the competent Italian consular authority certifying that neither the direct ascendants nor the person claiming Italian citizenship have ever renounced their Italian citizenship pursuant to Article 7 of Law No. 555 of June 13, 1912;
- Certificate of residence.
In light of regulatory changes, to demonstrate exclusive possession of Italian citizenship, the following may also be produced (for example):
- Certificates declaring non-citizenship;
- Certificates of renunciation of citizenship;
- Certificates of non-registration on the electoral rolls;
- Certificate of historical residence, to demonstrate any residence in Italy for at least two consecutive years;
- Certificate of historical citizenship.
Further documentation may be requested based on the specific situation of the applicant.
