REACQUIRING ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP according to Art. 13, Par. 1, Lett. C, of Law 91/1992

Law No. 91 of February 5, 1992, which came into force on August 16, 1992, established that the voluntary acquisition of a foreign citizenship no longer, in itself, entails the automatic loss of Italian citizenship, except in the case of formal renunciation pursuant to Article 11.

However, those who voluntarily acquired a foreign citizenship before August 16, 1992, lost their Italian citizenship under the regulations in force at the time. In such cases, the former Italian citizen may now reacquire their Italian citizenship without having to renounce their other citizenship, according to one of the procedures provided for in Article 13 of Law No. 91/1992.

In this case, reacquisition occurs from the day following completion of one year of residence in Italy.
