Law No. 74 of May 23, 2025, converting Decree-Law No. 36 of March 28, 2025, amended Article 17, paragraph 1, of Law No. 91 of February 5, 1992, temporarily reopening the terms for the reacquisition of Italian citizenship by certain former Italian citizens who had lost it, even if residing abroad.
Pursuant to Article 15 of Law No. 91/1992, the reacquisition of Italian citizenship does NOT have retroactive effect. Therefore, where the conditions are met, citizenship will be reacquired from the day following the date on which the declaration is given.
The declaration of reacquisition may be given from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
