Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)

Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)
ONLY for Italian tourists NOT residing in the United States

Italian citizens – tourists or in transit in the United States – whose passport has been lost or stolen can ask this Consular Chancellery to issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) for their return to Italy (or their country of residence).

An ETD has a maximum validity of 5 days and may be used only to return to Italy or the country of residence.

Required Documents 

  1. Completed application form, specifying the request for an Emergency Travel Document;
  2. Copy of the report confirming the theft or loss of the passport filed with local police;
  3. Two passport-sized photos;
  4. Copy of the airline ticket with confirmed departure date;
  5. Stolen or lost passport number;
  6. Payment of consular fee for the issuance of an ETD – For the exact amount due, please refer to the Consular Table available on the “Consular Services and Visas” page.
