THE STRENGTH AND DEPTH OF ITALY-US RELATIONS HIGHLIGHTED AT THE RECEPTION HOSTED BY ITALIAN AMBASSADOR PERONACI ON ITALY’S NATIONAL DAY

Last night, the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, H.E. Marco Peronaci, hosted at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. over 1,100 guests for the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, which coincides with the important 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.

After the video message of the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, the Ambassador recalled the remarks of the Italian President of the Republic referencing the special significance of the Republic’s 80th anniversary. President Mattarella emphasized women’s decisive contribution to the outcome of the referendum that took place on June 2, 1946, with which Italians chose the Republic over the monarchy. The photographic exhibition “Women of the Republic,” produced by ANSA and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was highlighted.

Recalling the important results achieved between Rome and Washington in recent months, Peronaci emphasized that “Italy and the United States are implementing the Joint Declaration signed by Prime Minister Meloni and President Trump in 2025, working on concrete avenues of collaboration, from energy to advanced technologies, from space exploration to scientific cooperation.”

Recalling the extraordinary results of our bilateral trade — which peaked to a phenomenal USD 120 billion in 2025— the Ambassador mentioned the Italy-US Business, Investment, Science and Innovation Forum that will take place on June 22 in Miami, Florida. The Forum is further evidence of the priority Italy places on its economic, scientific, and cultural partnership with the United States, the Ambassador noted.

Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Samuel Alito, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas, were among the guests attending the celebrations at the Embassy of Italy, along with numerous other high-level representatives, confirming the priority the Administration places on the relationship with Italy. The participation of the leadership of the Italian-American caucus in the U.S. Congress was also of great significance.

In addition to prominent figures from the Italian community, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the worlds of business, culture, and media also attended the celebrations at the Italian Embassy.
