Italy’s Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, met today at the Viminal Palace with the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem.
“Migration and security,” said Piantedosi, “are two pillars of our strategic alliance, which was renewed on April 17th in Washington, during the meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Donald Trump. We share the determination to dismantle migrant trafficking networks and to implement every useful initiative to further combat irregular immigration.”
“Our cooperation also extends to many other areas,” continued Minister Piantedosi. “In fact, the ongoing dialogue, the exchange of information, and the synergy between our police forces have led to outstanding results in all fields, particularly in the fight against organized crime. Over the years, we have shared information and investigative methods to counter mafia organizations, achieving excellent results through joint operations, thanks also to the well-known Falcone method and the success of the I-CAN project against the ‘Ndrangheta.”
At the heart of the discussion were also the Italy-Albania model, efforts to combat drug trafficking and the spread of fentanyl, and the fight against terrorism and cybercrime, which, due to its cross-cutting nature and vast application potential, has become a central challenge to security. “We will continue working together,” concluded the head of the Ministry of the Interior, “to develop a regular and constructive dialogue in order to turn commitments into concrete actions.”
