PROCEDURE art. 3 bis comma 1 lettera c)

 

FOR ALL APPLICANTS (ADULT AND MINOR over one year of age) REQUIREMENTS

Applications must be sent EXCLUSIVELY by mail to the CITIZENSHIP OFFICE by certified mail with tracking, without return receipt.

Include with the documents a PREPAID COURIER ENVELOPE (ONLY FEDEX is accepted, no UPS or US Postal Service). The pre-paid envelope must include a PRE-PAID PICK-UP LABEL (from the Embassy).

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE RETURNED, and you will need to schedule a new appointment.

The Citizenship Office may request additional documentation to determine eligibility.

The shipping date must be clearly visible on the envelope.

If the application is sent before the date of the appointment, the package will be returned at the applicant’s expense without any evaluation, with the reason: “Date does not match appointment.”

The application must be mailed no later than 30 days after the appointment date.

All communications will be sent via email to the person who signs the application.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In cases where, based on existing principles, the transmission line has been interrupted, the conditions outlined in Art. 3-bis do not serve to repair or validate such an interruption.

Therefore, the provisions of Minister of Interior Circular K28.1 of April 8, 1991, as well as the new interpretation by the Court of Cassation regarding the combined provisions of Articles 7 and 12 of Law 555/1912, shall continue to apply. (Circolare Ministero dell’Interno n. 43347 del 03/10/2024).

 

ONLY FOR ADULT APPLICANTS’ REQUIREMENTS

To submit your application, you must book an appointment with the CITIZENSHIP OFFICE through the online booking system at the following link: https://prenotami.esteri.it

On the day of your appointment, you DO NOT need to go to the Embassy.

Instead, you may send your application by MAIL, including all the required documentation listed on:

Applications are subject to a €600 fee, to be paid in USD via Money Order or Cashier’s Check made out to: “Italian Embassy in Washington DC.”

This fee is required regardless of the outcome of the application and is non-refundable in case of a negative result.

The amount of the fee is subject to quarterly adjustments.

The applicant will receive a copy of the payment receipt via email, along with a notification regarding the start of the legal processing period (730 days).

Once the review process is complete, the Consular Office of this Embassy will send the applicant a notification stating the outcome of the procedure.

 

ONLY FOR MINOR APPLICANTS’ REQUIREMENTS

One of the parents must book (for the minor child) an appointment with the CITIZENSHIP OFFICE through the online booking system at the following link: https://prenotami.esteri.it

On the day of your appointment, you DO NOT need to go to the Embassy.

Instead, you may send your son/daughter application by MAIL, including all the required documentation listed on:

Checklist 1 – Art. 3 bis, comma 1, lettera c) MINORS

Checklist 2 – Art. 3 bis, comma 1, lettera c) MINORS

The documents inside the envelope must be organized as specified in:

Checklist 3 – Art. 3 bis, comma 1, lettera c) MINORS

Parent of the minor applicant who signed the citizenship application for their child will receive a notification regarding the start of the legal processing period (730 days).

Once the review process is complete, the Consular Office of this Embassy will send a notice to the parent of the minor applicant who signed the citizenship application for their child a notification stating the outcome of the procedure.
