PROCEDURE art. 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law n. 36/2025
MINORS
- Contact the VITAL RECORDS Office (stcivile.washington@esteri.it) to schedule an appointment;
- BOTH parents must attend the appointment (even if one of them is not an Italian citizen).
BOTH parents (who fall within the situations set forth in letters a), a-bis), and b) of Article 3-bis of Law No. 91/1992) MUST go to the Embassy on the day of the appointment to sign an application for Italian citizenship for MINOR son/daughter, based on art. 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law n. 36/2025, submitting the required documentation as indicated in Checklist 1 – art. 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Decree-Law n. 36/2025 MINORS
The declaration of the parents or guardian must be submitted to the Consular Office no later than May 31, 2026.
ADULTS
Only in the event that the minor child has reached the age of majority in the meantime, the procedure shall remain the same, but the declaration must be signed — in the same manner — by the individual concerned, and not by the parents.
