Before booking or going to your appointment, all documentation must be emailed to the Citizenship Office in digital format at washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it.
We recommend:
- consolidating all documentation into a single PDF file, where possible;
- using legible and complete scans (not photographs);
- maintaining an adequate but normal resolution for the file, with total file size preferably no greater than 5 MB.
This step allows the Consular Office to conduct a preliminary review of all of the documentation and to notify you should there arise a need for additional documentation before the physical appointment.
The following documents, in their original form, must be submitted on the day of the appointment:
- Birth certificate transcription request form
- Minor’s birth certificate issued by the competent authorities of the country of birth
(long form, specifying the city of birth) - Italian translation of the birth certificate
- Apostille of the birth certificate
- Valid government issued identity document of each parent for each country of citizenship
- Minor’s government issued identity document (if available)
- Proof of residence within the geographical limits of this Consular Office’s district
- Any documentation relating to the parents’ Vital Records (such as marital status or recognition of parentage rights).
Additional documentation may be requested based on the specific situation.
