Washington, D.C., August 30, 2024 — The new American tour of Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, performing in duo with American pianist Uri Caine, begins tomorrow in Washington, with a performance at the most important jazz festival in the U.S. capital—the DC Jazz Fest. This long-standing musical partnership, celebrated by critics and always appreciated by audiences, will be presented by the Embassy of Italy in the United States not only in Washington but also at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Miami on September 3rd, and in Boston on September 4th at the Berklee Red Room.
This tour is organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institutes of Washington and Miami, and the Consulate General of Italy in Boston, to celebrate the strong and deep connections between American and Italian jazz. In recent years, Italian jazz has made a significant contribution to the growth and development of new styles, with Italian-American artists playing a fundamental role in the genre’s history.
The collaboration between Fresu and Caine is considered one of the most interesting of recent years: Fresu’s lyrical trumpet, immediately recognizable for its distinctive dreamlike timbre, perfectly complements Uri Caine’s multifaceted approach to the piano, which effortlessly navigates between American tradition, mainstream jazz, blues, avant-garde, and even classical music.
The upcoming American concerts of the Fresu-Caine duo will be another opportunity to celebrate the strong musical ties between Italy and the United States, thanks to the unifying power of jazz, the quintessential American musical genre.
