“The Red Bench” at the Italian Embassy in Washington

The Embassy of Italy in Washington has installed a red bench as a “symbol of the void left in society when a woman falls victim to femicide,” as highlighted by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, who on March 8th had arranged for the placement of a red bench near the entrance of the Farnesina (Italy’s Foreign Ministry), inviting the Italian diplomatic-consular network to do the same, as a signal of the Farnesina’s commitment to combating every form of violence and discrimination against women, in Italy and around the world. “We want a world where women and girls can live free from fear,” emphasized the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Mariangela Zappia, in promoting the initiative with a video on the social media accounts of the Embassy.
