Visit to Washington by the delegation of the Friendship Section with the USA of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

(Washington, Nov. 30, 2023). The visit to Washington DC of the Italy-United States Bilateral Friendship Section of the Italian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union ended today.

The delegation, assisted by the Ambassador of Italy, Mariangela Zappia, was composed of the President of the Italian UIP Group Sen. Pier Ferdinando Casini, the President of the Bilateral Friendship Section Sen. Mariastella Gelmini, and the Hon. Giangiacomo Calovini. The meetings were also attended by Hon. Christian Di Sanzo in his capacity as elected official to the North and Central America constituency.

There were meetings at the State Department and a series of influential Think Tanks to exchange views on the common engagement of Italy and the United States and bilateral collaboration on major foreign policy dossiers, starting with the Middle East and Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the delegation traveled to Congress, where it had a fruitful meeting with members of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, led by co-chairs Hon. Bill Pascrell and Mark Amodei, in which they affirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations and full agreement on the main international agenda issues.

Finally, the parliamentarians, hosted by Ambassador Zappia at the Italian residence, held talks with representatives of the Italian and Italian-American community in the United States, managers of Italian and U.S. companies, and top executives of Washington-based international financial institutions.
