On May 19, the Ambassador of Italy in Washington, Armando Varricchio, hosted at Villa Firenze, his Residence, a meeting with the main members of the vast, bi-cameral and bi-partisan Italian-American Congressional Delegation, headed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the two Co-Chairs of the Congressional Delegation, Bill Pascrell and Mark Amodei. The meeting also included representatives of the board of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), an association that brings together the most important Italian-origin voices from the areas of US politics, economy and culture, and which aims to protect and promote Italian culture, enhance the contribution of Italian-Americans to U.S. society, and act as a bridge to Italy. NIAF guests included the new President Robert Carlucci, and Executive Vice President John Calvelli.
