Space and the “space economy” increasingly at the core of the relations between Italy and the United States.

Washington DC, November 29, 2018 – Space, cooperation in the space field, and the so-called “space economy” represent an increasingly important element in the relations between Italy and the USA, as underlined by Prime Minister Conte and President Trump at the White House at the end of July.

This was highlighted during a conference held at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC in collaboration with the Piedmont Region. The event, attended by numerous American and Italian companies in the Piedmont space cluster, included the presence of the Under-Secretary for Economic Development, Michele Geraci, in Washington for an institutional visit. Geraci recalled how the excellence of our companies and the professionalism of our public institutions have allowed “Italy to establish itself in a strategic and highly competitive sector”.

Just to give an example, Mars-InSight, that just landed on Mars a few days ago, has an Italian star tracker built by the Italian company Leonardo. In mid-September, at the Embassy of Italy, Angel Group and Virgin Galactic signed a partnership agreement for suborbital flights.

Today’s conference is the third event on space that the Embassy organized in less than three months, showing the increasingly positive collaboration between Italy and the US both at industrial and institutional level.
