Meeting of the representatives of the Italian Community in the United States confirms their pivotal contribution to relations between the US and Italy.

Washington, D.C., October 13, 2018 – Today, Ambassador Armando Varricchio hosted a meeting with the representatives of Italian bodies in the United States. Among those present were Senator Francesca Alderisi and The Hon. Francesca La Marca, both elected in the North America college, as well as representatives of the 10 Comites (Committees of Italians Abroad – Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington), and the two CGIE (General Council of Italians Abroad) advisers representing the United States.

Today’s meeting allowed the opportunity for a direct dialogue on significant matters such as the promotion of the Italian language, services to the community, consular network activities and collaboration between the latter and elected bodies.

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the contribution made by Italian representatives abroad to the political, economic, cultural and social spheres of their host Country, as well as their pivotal role in enabling fellow citizens to actively participate in the life of their own community and represent the community’s requests to local authorities.

“Whether it’s Italians who have recently moved to the United States for work, to study or research, to explore the new frontiers of technology or promote ambitious start-ups, or whether it’s Americans of italian descent, all find in their elected representatives a voice which is attentive to their needs and a strong connection with Italy” said Ambassador Varricchio, while opening the meeting.
