Visit of Italian Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti in the United States

Italian Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti and US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis met today at the Pentagon. They reaffirmed our countries strong bond of friendship and commitment to international security. Italy and the US are engaged together in promoting peace and stability from Afghanistan to Iraq and in defeating the scourge of terrorism. Our cooperation grows stronger day by day also thanks to an outstanding cooperation in the defense industry. Minister Pinotti and Secretary Mattis also discussed at length current developments in the Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Libya and Syria, and in Asia, with a focus on the DPRK.

Italian Minister of Defense Roberta Pinotti also met Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Service Committee, to discuss security and defense issues.

During her visit Minister Pinotti paid a visit to the Arlington National Cemetary and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the unknown Soldier.
