Visit of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi to Washington (April 3-4, 2019)

During his visit to Washington to attend the NATO Foreign Affairs Ministerial on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty establishing the Alliance on April 4, 1949, Minister Moavero Milanesi had a series of meetings with Trump administration officials and members of the Senate and House.

During his meeting with the National Security Advisor, Ambassador John Bolton, Minister Moavero reviewed the main international dossiers, from the collaboration within the Atlantic Alliance to Venezuela, from China to the Mediterranean and the Middle East. With Senior Advisor to the President, Jared Kushner, he discussed the common engagement to promote peace, growth and prosperity in the Mediterranean region. Minister Moavero then met with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Mark Meadows.

The celebrations for NATO’s 70th anniversary, hosted by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, were held first at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium where the North Atlantic Treaty was signed and later at the State Department. The discussion between the Foreign Ministers confirmed the continuing relevance of an Alliance between democracies that share values and goals, an alliance that guarantees the security and prosperity of its members in the face of continuous evolutions in the risks and threats to international stability.
