THE ITALIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED STATES, MARCO PERONACI, PRESENTED HIS CREDENTIALS TO THE GOVERNOR GENERAL OF THE COMMONWEALTH ON THE BAHAMAS

March 2, 2026

Marco Peronaci, the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, travelled to Nassau, to present his Letters of Credence to the Governor General of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, H.E. the most Honorable Dame Cynthia Alexandria Pratt.

“I am inspired by the beauty of your islands and the warmth of your people. I pledge my utmost dedication, together with my team, to fostering a partnership that is as enduring and deep as the sea that connects us” said H.E. Marco Peronaci.

During his meeting with H.E. the most Honorable Dame Cynthia Alexandria Pratt, Ambassador Peronaci conveyed the warm greetings from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and expressed his hope to contribute to further strengthening the extraordinary friendship between the two countries. Furthermore, he indicated he was looking forward to following up on the institutional contacts established by the Undersecretary of State at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Giorgio Silli who visited The Bahamas in January 2025.

“[our bond] is a historical reality dating back to centuries ago. I think of the Italian cartographers who first gave shape and name to the routes crossing the Atlantic and uniting Europe with the Americas. … Cantino Planisphere of 1502, commissioned by the Duke of Ferrara, or the refined atlases of the Venetian master Battista Agnese, were among the first to reveal the beauty of your archipelago to the world. In those early ink strokes, Italian geographers already recognized the prominence of the “Lucayas”, establishing a ‘geographical’ dialogue that I now have the privilege to continue and nurture,” he added.
