ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSHIP BY BENEFIT OF THE LAW: DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 31, 2029.
MORE TIME TO DECLARE THE INTENTION TO ACQUIRE ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP FOR MINOR CHILDREN BORN ABROAD.
Law No. 26 of February 28, 2026, converted Legislative Decree No. 200 of December 31, 2025, into law and it provided, among other things, for the extension of the legal deadline set out in Article 1, paragraph 1-ter, of Legislative Decree No. 200 of March 28, 2025. 36, from May 31, 2026, to May 31, 2029.
Therefore, persons who have not turned 18 on May 24, 2025, and who are children of citizens by birth who meet the conditions set forth in letters a), a-bis), and b) of Article 3-bis of Law No. 91 of February 5, 1992, may acquire citizenship by law by submitting the required declaration by May 31, 2029, and no longer only by May 31, 2026.
