FOREIGN MINISTER ANTONIO TAJANI SPEAKS WITH US SECRETARY OF STATE MARCO RUBIO
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had a telephone conversation today with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Minister Tajani reiterated Italy’s commitment to de-escalation aimed at fostering a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Israel and Iran. Minister Tajani and the Secretary of State agreed that Iran must not have a nuclear bomb. The Minister was informed by Secretary Rubio that the United States is ready for direct negotiations with Iranian counterparts, as announced by President Trump.
The Secretary of State and the Foreign Minister also addressed the situation in Gaza – Tajani emphasized the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and the full restoration of humanitarian access; Rubio agreed and confirmed that this is the intention of the Trump Administration.
Tajani and Rubio discussed the need to urgently restart negotiations to achieve a just and lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.
