Italian Business Integrity Day at the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC

Washington D.C., December 18, 2017 – To mark the International Anti-Corruption Day, the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC organized an Italian Business Integrity Day to illustrate the tools adopted by companies to prevent illegal behavior based on international and Italian laws, but also to promote the image of Italy and its legal and economic systems.

The initiative is part of the project launched by the Italian Foreign Ministry to introduce abroad the compliance models and the integrity and anticorruption practices of Italian companies which have distinguished themselves in this arena. The project was achieved in collaboration with Transparency International and other companies.

The debate, which saw the participation of companies such as Edison, Luxottica Group and SNAM as well as US agencies, compared best-practices and tools for preventing and combating crime and corruption. It also highlighted how the Italian public system and companies are on par with international efforts.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador of Italy to the US, Armando Varricchio, reminded participants how investing in transparency, in the fight against corruption, in elevating ethical standards, and in the culture of legality is a key factor in the consolidation of the positive image of Made in Italy, in the trust of the consumer and investors and in our industries. He added that this will also allow Italy to compete globally and especially in the North American market, where Italian American entrepreneurship covers all sectors.

The Ambassador also recalled the contribution made by the Italian Government to the development of strategies to combat corruption in international organizations and multilateral for a, such as UNCAC, OECD, Council of Europe, G20 and G7.
