“MARINE ART” AT THE EMBASSY OF ITALY

On the occasion of the National Day of Italy 2019, the Embassy in Washington D.C. inaugurated the exhibition “Marine Art”, with works by Lorenzo Mariotti.

Lorenzo Mariotti “Pittore Benemerito di Marina” (“Naval Artist”) specializes in naval subjects, including FREMM multi-role frigates and destroyers, in particular the “Alpino” and the “Carabiniere”, which were among the first ships built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy after the war, and which entered service in the late 1960s. The prints on display are reproductions of works currently on board those frigates.

Whether they depict dreamy landscapes or evocative marine subjects his works are intense.

“The works on display today are a perfect balance between form and function, art and technique, progress and tradition” notes Lorenzo Mariotti.

“Italy’s relationship with the sea has ancient roots. An age-old tradition that the Italian Navy continues to nurture thanks to its dedication, courage, valor and professionalism, while contributing to security and stability in the Mediterranean and beyond” recalled Ambassador Armando Varricchio.

The exhibition is being held under the patronage of the Italian Navy and the Lega Navale Italiana and was made possible by Fincantieri Marine Group.
