Italy’s participation in the Ministerial on Advancing Religious Freedom (Washington, 25-26 July 2018).

The Ambassador of Italy to the United States Armando Varricchio represented Italy at the Ministerial on Advancing Religious Freedom, hosted by the Department of State and chaired by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The Vice-President Mike Pence and the Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner also attended the conference, along with more than 80 countries and international organizations.

During the works, which were focused on the identification of strategies and innovative approaches in order to raise awareness on the link between religious freedom, security and growth, Ambassador Varricchio underlined the constant Italian commitment to the protection of religious freedom at a bilateral, European and international level. As a testament to Italy’s continued commitment, Ambassador Varricchio recalled that – on the basis of the Conference on the fight against Anti-Semitism organized in Rome in January 2018, in the framework of Italy’s OSCE presidency – Rome will host a High Level Conference next October to elaborate on the theme of religious freedom within the members of the Vienna based Organization.
