Deaths

The death of an Italian citizen that occurs within our consular jurisdiction must also be promptly communicated to the Italian authorities.

Required documents and instructions

  1. Original long-form or extended-form death certificate with apostille
  2. Translation into Italian of the death certificate (the apostille does not need to be translated)

 

The translation must be faithful, accurate, and complete, reflecting the original in every part, including stamps and signatures. Otherwise, the Office cannot declare its conformity therewith. It can be executed by the applicant or by a professional translator (see here a list of translators).

 

  1. Registration request form signed by a relative (Italian or foreign). Include a valid email address to receive confirmation of the registration from the relevant Italian municipality. Remember to include all names and surnames of the deceased.
  2. Document proving the citizenship of the deceased (Italian passport, identity card, or certificate of Italian citizenship).
  3. Copy of the passport or ID of the person who is requesting the registration.
