GENERAL INFORMATION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

APPLICATIONS ARE HANDLED EXCLUSIVELY BY MAIL<\/strong><\/p>\n

To submit an application, you must book a virtual appointment online, creating an account using the online system PRENOT@MI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Documents must be submitted by certified mail<\/strong> with tracking and without a return receipt.<\/p>\n

Provide with the documents A PREPAID COURIER ENVELOPE (ONLY FEDEX, not UPS, not USPS). The prepaid envelope must be WITH A PREPAID LABEL PICK-UP (from the Embassy).<\/p>\n

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE RETURNED AND YOU WILL NEED TO SCHEDULE A NEW APPOINTMENT.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If your application can be received, the Citizenship Office will send a fee payment receipt to your email address within two (2) months upon arrival.<\/p>\n

Requests for confirmation that your application was received will only be responded to after two (2) months from the shipment date \u2013 please attach a screenshot of the tracking information to your request or we will be unable to respond.<\/p>\n

The Citizenship Office may request additional documentation in order to determine your eligibility.<\/p>\n

CONSULAR \u00a0FEE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Please see ON OUR WEBSITE the current fee<\/strong> for applying for recognition of \u201cIure Sanguinis\u201d citizenship at the following link (the amount changes every three months): Consular fee for applying for recognition of Italian citizenship \u201ciure sanguinis\u201d \u2013 Ambasciata d’Italia a Washington<\/a><\/p>\n

Provide only a MONEY ORDER or a CASHIER\u2019S CHECK<\/u><\/strong> with the EXACT AMOUNT payable to \u201cEmbassy of Italy, Washington DC\u201d.<\/p>\n

Include your full first, maiden (if you have one), and last name and complete address information and telephone number in the Memo<\/em> portion of the money order or cashier\u2019s check and your signature (placed in an envelope).<\/p>\n

Be aware that the fee is due regardless of the outcome of the processing.<\/p>\n

It is non-refundable in the event of a negative outcome.<\/p>\n

ONLINE SIGNATURES IN FRONT OF A NOTARY PUBLIC WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.<\/p>\n

NOTARY PUBLIC AND APOSTILLE<\/a> MUST BE FROM THE U.S. STATE OF THE APPPLICANT\u2019S CURRENT RESIDENCE.<\/p>\n

VITAL RECORDS DOCUMENTS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Documents must be submitted starting from the last relative born in Italy and end with the applicant\u2019s birth certificate.<\/p>\n

DO NOT PROVIDE applicant\u2019s Marriage Certificate, Children Applicant\u2019s Birth Certificate and Parents\u2019 Divorce.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In-line relatives\u2019 vital records must be certified originals, long form, legalized by apostille<\/a>, and accompanied by an Italian translation on plain paper.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Long-form certificates must be<\/u> requested and are not the standard-issue certificate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Long-Form Birth Certificates contain parents\u2019 full names and dates and places of birth.<\/p>\n

Long-Form Marriage Certificates contain parents\u2019 full names and dates and places of birth and number of previous marriages (or legal status before marriage).<\/p>\n
