The Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Mariangela Zappia, participated yesterday in the Columbus Day celebrations held in New York, together with the Vice President of the Italian Senate, Senator Licia Ronzulli, and the Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Honorable Giorgio Mul\u00e8.<\/p>\n
\u201cColumbus Day is a special day for Italy in the United States: We celebrate the extraordinary contribution that Italian-Americans have made to the building of this country, to its success, and to the realization of the American dream,\u201d commented the Ambassador. \u201cThe ties between Italy and the United States, based on shared principles and values \u2013 democracy, freedom, and human rights \u2013 are stronger than ever,\u201d she added, highlighting how the presence of two prominent representatives of the Italian Parliament is a testament to this special partnership.<\/p>\n
During the parade, which carried the Italian tricolor through the streets of New York, Zappia met with the Governor of the State of New York, Kathy Hochul, and the Archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, at St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n
