Marco Peronaci, announced the winners of the 2026 Urbino Award, under the patronage of the Senate of the Italian Republic. Peter Baker, a leading writer for The New York Times, and Susan Glasser, one of the most important voices at The New Yorker, received the prestigious award, on the occasion of its twentieth edition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Peter Baker and Susan Glasser are top-tier journalists who truly embody the excellence of American journalism,&#8221; remarked Ambassador Peronaci. &#8220;The Urbino Award plays an irreplaceable role in forging and nurturing new connections between Italy and the United States. The strong support from Italian institutions at all levels demonstrates the quality of the journey taken so far and the great potential for the future,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Giovanni Lani, a journalist and the President and co-founder of the Urbino Award, stated: &#8220;The Urbino Award was established twenty years ago. This is a very significant anniversary for us, and we wanted to make it different from previous editions. We found a rare opportunity to honor two top-level professionals who also share their daily lives: Peter Baker and his wife, Susan B. Glasser, two journalists who uphold the value of the profession through their ethics and dedication to research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During the event, Peter Baker expressed his gratitude in receiving the award alongside his wife in Washington, noting that he looks forward to traveling to Urbino soon for the traditional ceremony at Palazzo Ducale. Susan Glasser discussed the major challenges facing the news industry today during a conversation with Steve Clemons, the 2025 Urbino Award winner.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Baker is the Chief White House Correspondent for The New York Times as well as a political analyst for MS NOW and a frequent panelist on PBS\u2019s Washington Week. Before joining the Times, he worked at The Washington Post. During his career, he has covered the Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations. He was also the Post\u2019s correspondent in Moscow. Before joining The New Yorker as a staff writer, Susan Glasser worked for The Washington Post as a correspondent and senior editor, for Politico guiding a news operation of 200 journalists in the momentous 2016 election cycle, and for Foreign Policy, where she served as editor-in-chief. She also founded POLITICO Magazine.
