Yesterday, the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, H.E. Marco Peronaci, hosted an event dedicated to the role of content creators, news influencers, and social media in shaping politics and public opinion, particularly among younger generations, ahead of November\u2019s midterm elections.<\/p>\n
“Today, technology has changed the way politics is conducted and it has even changed the world of diplomacy, from artificial intelligence to the fight against disinformation. In this context, creators have acquired growing influence as central players in the media ecosystem, especially given the declining trust in traditional media. Our task is to develop a line of communication and engage with these influential voices here in the United States,” Ambassador Peronaci commented.<\/p>\n
Part of the Embassy\u2019s “Digital Diplomacy Series,” now in its fourteenth year, the event featured three different panels. The first was moderated by Jayme Franklin, founder and CEO of “The Conservateur,” featuring Isabel Brown, Chloe Trapanotto of “It’sAll Politics” and Nikita Chirkov of “Inside Geopolitics.” The second was moderated by Aaron Parnas, one of the most well-known and nationally influential creators, also founder of “The Parnas Perspective,” alongside Ishaia Martin, Suzanne Lambert, and Barrett Adair. The last panel was a wrap up session with Frankly and Parnas, moderated by geopolitical strategist and political commentator Rina Shah. The participating speakers collectively reach an online audience of over 25 million followers.<\/p>\n
The event was well attended both in person and online via livestream, which was also available on the Embassy’s social media channels.<\/p>\n
In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, new media and content creators were already central players in shaping the outcome, and their importance is expected to be even greater in the 2026 midterm elections. According to Reuters Institute, young Americans are increasingly getting their news on social media, with 37% of adults under 30 saying they regularly get their news from content creators.<\/p>\n
