Certification of Translation Conformity<\/h3>\n
Certification of the translation conformity occurs in two phases:<\/p>\n
\n
Preliminary digital verification<\/li>\n
Final certification on paper documents<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Final certification is performed only after the preliminary verification and based on paper originals.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Which documents can be submitted to this Office?<\/h3>\n
The request for certification must be submitted to the Italian Consulate responsible for the country where the document was issued.
\nTherefore:<\/p>\n
\n
For documents issued in the United States, certification of translation conformity may be requested from this Office;<\/li>\n
For documents issued in other countries, the interested party must contact the Italian Consulate responsible for that country, except in specific cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n
Before preparing the files<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Translations must be prepared only after the document has been properly apostilled or legalized<\/a><\/strong>, where required.<\/p>\n
It is the interested party’s responsibility to verify that the translation is:<\/p>\n
\n
Complete in every detail
\n(e.g., signatures, seals, stamps, etc.);<\/li>\n
Correct;<\/li>\n
Legible; and,<\/li>\n
perfectly corresponds to the original
\n(e.g., annotations, attachments, numeric codes, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The only element that does not need to be translated is the apostille itself.
\n<\/span><\/strong>All other documents attached to the document must be translated.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Phase 1 \u2013 Preliminary Verification by Email<\/h3>\n
For the preliminary verification, you must send two compressed PDF files:<\/p>\n
\n
a PDF containing the original documents;<\/li>\n
a PDF containing the relevant Italian translations, in the same order as the original documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The PDFs must also be accompanied by:<\/p>\n
\n
the certification request form, completed and signed;<\/li>\n
a copy of your passport or other identification document;<\/li>\n
proof of residence in the consular district.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The files must be sent to washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it<\/a><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Phase 2 \u2013 Final Certification<\/h3>\n
Except in cases of genuine, duly documented urgency, the final certification is delivered by mail.
\nTo finalize the procedure, the following documentation must be sent.
\nIf one or more elements are missing, the package may be returned without processing.<\/p>\n
\n
A signed transmittal note;<\/li>\n
Copy of an addressed photo ID;<\/li>\n
Copy of the passport’s personal information page;<\/li>\n
The originals of the apostilled documents for which the translation certification is requested;<\/li>\n
The translations to be certified, printed on one side only;<\/li>\n
A prepaid, addressed US Postal Service Priority Mail envelope to be used for returning the certified documents;<\/li>\n
A money order made payable to: Embassy of Italy-Washington, DC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n
Amount Due
\n<\/strong>The certification fee is calculated per single page (one side only) of translation.
\nThe money order must be filled out correctly in its entirety, including, where requested by the issuer, the applicant’s information and signature. Incorrectly filled out payments will result in the package being returned without processing.<\/p>\n
USPS Return Envelope<\/strong>
\nUSPS labels can be prepared using the “Click-N-Ship” service on the USPS website. The label must be attached to the return envelope included in the package.<\/p>\n
