Gather all required documentation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First of all, you need to collect all the necessary documentation to support your application.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Every <strong>non-Italian document<\/strong> <strong>must be duly legalized <\/strong>according to the regulations in force in the country of issue (with an <a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/traduzione-e-legalizzazione-dei-documenti\/le-legalizzazioni-di-documenti-tra-italia-ed-usa-lapostille\/\">apostille<\/a>, where applicable);<\/li>\n<li>Every non-Italian document must be <strong>accompanied by an Italian translation<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Translations must reproduce, as far as possible, <strong>the content and layout of the original document;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is recommended <strong>not<\/strong> to use characters sizes <strong>smaller than 10 points<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Complete the application correctly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you have gathered all the documentation, you must:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>complete the application form in its entirety;<\/li>\n<li>sign it according to the instructions provided;<\/li>\n<li>verify that all the documentation is complete and correctly prepared.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Book an appointment on the Prenot@mi portal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Only <strong>after<\/strong> having gathered <strong>all<\/strong> the documents and correctly prepared the application should the applicant book an appointment through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@mi<\/a> portal<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong><u>The applicant&#8217;s physical presence at the Consular Office is NOT required.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Print the appointment confirmation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After receiving the appointment confirmation, you will need <strong>to print it and include it in the mailing package<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Send the entire application package<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The entire application package must be mailed to the following address:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Embassy of Italy<br \/>\nATTN: Consular Section (JS Citizenship)<br \/>\n3000 Whitehaven Street, NW<br \/>\nWashington, D.C. 20008<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The package will have to contain:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>The printed appointment confirmation;<\/li>\n<li>The completed and signed application form;<\/li>\n<li>All required documentation;<\/li>\n<li>Certified translations;<\/li>\n<li>Prepaid, self-addressed US Postal Service Priority Mail envelope for the return of the documents submitted;<\/li>\n<li>A money order for the correct fee amount due;<\/li>\n<li>Proof of residence within the jurisdiction of the relevant consular office (e.g., current Real ID driver&#8217;s license, current utility bills);<\/li>\n<li>Valid photo ID.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Please respect the appointment date for shipping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The package must be <strong>postmarked<\/strong> <strong>with the same date as the booked appointment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of a documented emergency, a grace period of up to 30 days may be granted. In this case, the documentation proving the emergency must be enclosed with the printed appointment confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Shipping Methods<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Any traceable shipping service may be used to send the package to this Consular Office.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, however, that the return envelope included in the package must be USPS only.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Payment of the Consular Fee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Payment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza-2\/cittadinanza\/consular-fee-for-applying-for-recognition-of-iure-sanguinis-citizenship\/\">consular fee<\/a> must be made <strong><u>exclusively<\/u><\/strong> <strong>by money order<\/strong>, made payable to:<br \/>\n<strong>Embassy of Italy-Washington, D.C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The amount due will be the amount indicated on the website <strong>based on the date of the appointment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.
