{"id":14645,"date":"2026-03-19T15:17:34","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T19:17:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/?page_id=14645"},"modified":"2026-04-14T16:19:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T20:19:36","slug":"required-documentation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza-2\/cittadinanza-iure-sanguinis-2\/required-documentation\/","title":{"rendered":"REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All documentation must be emailed to the Citizenship Office in digital format at <a href=\"mailto:washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it\">washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consolidating all documentation into a single PDF file, where possible;<\/li>\n<li>using legible and complete scans (not photographs);<\/li>\n<li>maintaining an adequate but normal resolution for the file, with total file size preferably no greater than 5 MB.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This step allows the Consular Office to conduct a preliminary review of all of the documentation and to notify you should there arise a need for additional documentation before the physical appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The following documents, in their original form, must be submitted on the\u00a0 day of the appointment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Birth certificate transcription request form, dated and signed<\/li>\n<li>Minor&#8217;s birth certificate issued by the competent authorities of the country of birth<br \/>\n(<em>long<\/em> <em>form<\/em>, specifying the city of birth)<\/li>\n<li>Italian translation of the birth certificate<\/li>\n<li>Apostille of the birth certificate<\/li>\n<li>Valid government issued identity document of each parent for each country of citizenship<\/li>\n<li>Minor&#8217;s government issued identity document (if available)<\/li>\n<li>Proof of residence within the geographical limits of this Consular Office\u2019s district<\/li>\n<li>Any documentation relating to the parents&#8217; Vital Records (such as marital status or recognition of parentage rights).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Additional documentation may be requested based on the specific situation.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE FOR PARENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note that all applicants submitting a request for a minor <strong>must have all previous civil status documents relevant to family status<\/strong> (e.g., marriage) <strong>registered with the competent Italian municipality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, for children born before the parents&#8217; marriage or out of wedlock, a document certifying paternity (\u201c<strong>acknowledgement of paternity<\/strong>\u201d document), duly apostilled and accompanied by an Italian translation, must also be submitted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting January 1, 2026, <strong>the \u20ac250 fee<\/strong> pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 1-bis of Law No. 91\/1992, <strong>is <a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza-2\/cittadinanza\/importanti-novita-introdotte-con-la-legge-di-bilancio-2026-modificato-lart-4-della-legge-91-1992-piu-tempo-per-dichiarare-la-volonta-di-far-acquistare-ai-figli-minori-nati-allestero-la-cittadin\/\">no longer due to submit this declarations<\/a><\/strong>. This provision is not retroactive, thus it is not possible to request a refund of any fees paid before that date.<\/p>\n<p>Any requests for reimbursement of the \u20ac250 payment made for applications submitted <strong>after January 1, 2026<\/strong>, via bank transfer to the Italian Ministry of the Interior must be submitted using the specific &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/libertaciviliimmigrazione.dlci.interno.gov.it\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-10\/Modello%20richiesta%20rimborso%20contributo%20cittadinanza_0.pdf\">Richiesta per rimborso contributo di cittadinanza<\/a>&#8221; form (i.e. the citizenship contribution reimbursement request form).<br \/>\nThe Consulate will forward the request to the relevant office at the Italian Ministry of the Interior.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRELIMINARY DOCUMENTATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preliminary documentation for cases of minor children pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 1-bis (Citizenship by operation of the law, &#8220;beneficio di legge&#8221;):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/trascrizione_nascita-AIRE.pdf\">Birth transcription &#8211; AIRE<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/citizenship_enquiry_minor.xlsx\">Citizenship Inquiry<\/a> &#8211; with instructions as a fillable Excel File<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Last update: April 8, 2026<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"All documentation must be emailed to the Citizenship Office in digital format at washington.cittadinanza@esteri.it.
