{"id":14627,"date":"2026-03-19T15:10:56","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T19:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/?page_id=14627"},"modified":"2026-04-14T13:09:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T17:09:16","slug":"deadline-to-submit-the-declaration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza-2\/cittadinanza-iure-sanguinis-2\/deadline-to-submit-the-declaration\/","title":{"rendered":"DEADLINE TO SUBMIT THE DECLARATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The parents&#8217; declaration of intent must be submitted: <strong>within three years of the child&#8217;s birth<\/strong> (or of the date on which parentage or adoption rights are confirmed).<\/p>\n<p>If the declaration is submitted <a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza-2\/cittadinanza\/importanti-novita-introdotte-con-la-legge-di-bilancio-2026-modificato-lart-4-della-legge-91-1992-piu-tempo-per-dichiarare-la-volonta-di-far-acquistare-ai-figli-minori-nati-allestero-la-cittadin\/\"><strong><u>after the three-year deadline<\/u><\/strong><\/a>, the child may acquire \u00a0Italian citizenship only after legally residing in Italy for at least two consecutive years.<\/p>\n<p>Special provisions apply to children of Italian citizens by birth who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>were still minors on May 24, 2025, and<\/li>\n<li>whose parents obtained Italian citizenship following an application submitted by March 27, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In these cases, the declaration for acquisition of Italian citizenship may be submitted by <a href=\"https:\/\/ambwashingtondc.esteri.it\/en\/?page_id=14466\"><strong><u>May 31, 2029<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.
