Washington, January 16 2020. Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ivan Scalfarotto, visited San Francisco to attend the 38th edition of the annual JPMorgan Health Conference. The visit confirmed the central role played by Italy and its companies in the field of biotechnologies, pharma, and life sciences. More than 20 Italian companies, including start-ups and larger firms, attended the event with the concrete support of the Consulate General, Farmindustria and the Italian Trade Agency, represented by President Ferro. The companies were praised at every meeting opportunity, be it a B2B level or with potential American and international investors.

During his visit, the Undersecretary participated in the events “Italian Science and Technology meet international investors” and “HealthCare Italy on the Move 2020 Invest in Italy: country Seminar” highlighting the cutting-edge level reached by the Italian companies and Italy’s potential in terms of international competitiveness and FDI attractiveness.

“Italy – Scalfarotto underlined – thanks to the creativity, and innovative spirit of our entrepreneurs, especially the youngest, and the tangible support of public institutions, is increasingly present and active in the Silicon Valley. This is a confirmation of the strength of the country and its companies in a sector where technology, innovation and internationalization represent the pillars of the many successes already achieved and the bases for future ones”.

Furthermore, the Undersecretary explored possible collaborations with Genentech-Roche and visited the Swiss Innovation Centre, Swissnex. He also visited the Department of Engineering and the Centre for Automotive Research of Stanford University, following the Innovation Forum organized last October in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.

The visit came to a close with a meeting at Apple’s headquarters, where the work of the training center opened in Naples, in cooperation with Federico II University, was praised.
