The Ambassador of Italy Armando Varricchio visits the Commonwealth of the Bahamas (Nassau, January 15-17, 2020).

Washington, January 16 2020. The Ambassador of Italy to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Armando Varricchio, is paying an official visit to Nassau. In agenda meetings with Prime Minister Hubert Alexander Minnis and Ministers of Foreign Affairs Darren A. Henfield and Tourism and Aviation Dionisio James D’Aguilar. At the center of the meetings with members of the government are the strengthening of bilateral relations and the fruitful cooperation between Italy and the Bahamas in a number of areas, including the fight against climate change, organized crime and drug trafficking. The meetings will also provide an opportunity for an update on the economic and commercial prospects of the Bahamas and the role that Italian companies, many of which are already present in crucial sectors such as tourism, can play.

In light of the devastations caused by Hurricane Dorian last September, the leit-motiv of the visit will be the challenge posed by climate change. Climate change will also be at the heart of Ambassador Varricchio’s lecture on Friday 17th at the University of the Bahamas, under the auspices of the Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Research Centre. On this occasion, the Ambassador will recall the fundamental role that Italy, the European Union and the Bahamas can play in achieving ambitious goals in protecting the environment, through an increased focus on the youngest generations. The Minister of the Environment and Housing, Romauld Ferreira will also attend the Conference.

A jazz concert by the Italian singer Roberta Gambarini, accompanied on the piano by Jeb Patton, will celebrate the strength of the ties between Nassau and Rome. Many personalities will attend the concert organized by the Embassy.
