Washington September 19th, 2019. The European Union, the future of transatlantic ties and Italy’s contribution to the growth of the solid relationship between the two sides of the Atlantic at the center of the visit to Denver (Colorado) by the Italian Ambassador, Armando Varricchio.

The visit, organized by the German Marshall Fund, in collaboration with the Center for a New American Security, offered Ambassador Varricchio, Karen Donfried President of the German Marshall Fund, Andrea Kendall Taylor Director of the Transatlantic Security Program with CNAS, and Ivan Korčok Ambassador of Slovakia, an opportunity to illustrate outside Washington, the utmost importance of the relationship between the European Union and the USA for the growth and well-being of our societies.

On the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the commonality of values and the strength of free and democratic societies remain the pillars on which rests a relationship that has no equal in the world. Security, trade, investments, research and scientific collaboration, cultural exchanges, innovation, new and emerging technologies, are just some of the sectors that see Europe and the USA as protagonists.

These are the themes that the Ambassador touched upon during the meetings held in Denver with Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Michael Hancock, State Senator Kerry Donovan and State Representative Leslie Herod, and during the debates at the University of Denver and the Metropolitan State University.

During all the meetings, Ambassador Varricchio stressed that unity and integration in Europe are synonymous with prosperity and stability, not only at European level, but also for the United States of America. In this framework Italy, a key player in Europe, intends to be a protagonist in strengthening the relations with the USA.
