Italian National day Celebrations in New York (June 3, 2019)

Washington DC, June 4, 2019 – Yesterday, the Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Armando Varricchio, participated at the reception for the National Day held at the Consulate General in New York. At the presence of Consul General Francesco Genuardi, of Members of the Italian Parliament who took part in the "Italy Run" race and of a large number of Italians and Italian-Americans, Ambassador Varricchio recalled how "No place better than New York embodies the profound friendship between the United States and Italy. Italian names, companies, history and culture are deeply intertwined with the social fabric and life of the Big Apple ”.

Yesterday, the Ambassador visited the headquarters of the Institute for Foreign Trade in New York, for the exhibition of Italian products "An Authentic Italian experience", met with the Members of the Italian Parliament and presented the Award of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic to Isabella Rossellini and Antonio Monda, and of the Order of the Star of Italy to John Turturro. Before the reception, the Ambassador inaugurated the space reserved for Italian books in the waiting room of the Consulate, set up in collaboration with the Rizzoli bookstore in New York and other publishing houses such as Mondadori, Einaudi, Piemme, Sperling, Giunti, and Bompiani. During the reception for the National Day at the Consulate, chef Davide Oldani, in collaboration with Eataly in New York, presented the dish “Granotricolore.it”.

The celebrations were closed with a performance by jazz singer Chiara Civello at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. Chiara Civello performed last April 16 at the Embassy of Italy, within the series "Woman who jazz" organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington.
