EU Open House at the Embassy of Italy

Washington DC, May 14, 2019 – As in 2018, the Embassy of Italy in Washington opened its doors to the public on Saturday 11 May, in the context of the EU Open House 2019 organized for Europe Day. One of the main events of the month of May in the US capital, the EU Open House allows visitors to get closer to the culture, history and traditions of European Union member Countries.

The Embassy of Italy was visited by 6,000 people who had the unique opportunity to learn about our Country’s artistic and cultural heritage and the Italian excellences of both the private and public sectors, such as our Armed Forces. The cultural offer was also rich, thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute: visitors were able to listen to Paolo Angeli, a Sardinian-born musician who entertained the audience with a modified Sardinian guitar and admire the photographic exhibition “Life as a scientist” organized in collaboration with the Bracco Foundation. Georgetown University, George Washington University and the University of Maryland were also present with their stands presenting their Italian language and literature curricula, as well as the various institutions and associations such as Casa Italiana, Italian Cultural Society, Italians in DC and DIVE that contribute to spreading in the area of the capital the Italian culture and language. Participants also included Italian researchers from the National Institutes of Health and NASA who offered an overview of the research activities carried out at the two prestigious American institutions.

There were plenty of opportunities to taste some of the most typical products of our gastronomy from the coffee of Manuel Caffe, to the ice cream of Dolci Gelati, to the pizza of Marra Forni. Other partners in the initiative include Alitalia, Beretta, Bethesda Soccer Club, Ducati, Dulles International Airport, Ferrero, Fincantieri, Iveco, Juventus Academy and Leonardo.
