The National Italian-American Foundation, together with Italian Ambassador Armando Varricchio, pays tribute to the Italian-American delegation in Congress

Washington DC, February 25, 2019 – This afternoon the Ambassador of Italy Armando Varricchio spoke at an event organized by the National Italian-American Foundation (NIAF) to celebrate the Italian-American Delegation in the 116th Congress. During the event the two Presidents of the Foundation, Gabe Battista and Pat Harrison, welcomed four new Italian-American members of the House: Anthony Brindisi, Greg Gianforte, Joseph Morelle, and Jennifer Wexton.

Ambassador Varricchio recalled the strong impetus that the members of the Congressional Delegation, both republican and democratic, have always given to the strengthening of the very solid bilateral relation between Italy and the US. A unique relationship that touches every sector, from foreign policy to the economy, from culture to the social sphere, based on shared principles and values that – as the Ambassador recalled – “the Italian-American delegation in the 116th Congress will continue to nurture and encourage, with new ideas and a forward outlook, mindful of the great traditions that bind the two shores of the Atlantic and of the strong support of over 18 million citizens who boast an Italian-American heritage.”

In the wake of these excellent relations, on January 4, on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Congress, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Enzo Moavero Milanesi met Democrat Bill Pascrell and Republican Mike Amodei, co-chairs of the Italian-American Congressional Delegation. In June 2018, President Trump himself celebrated the Italian National Day with a warm message recalling how the Italian-Americans contributed and “continue to contribute to the history of American greatness”.
