Washington, January 26, 2019.

On 23 January 2019 the Lucio Fontana exhibition "On the Threshold" was inaugurated at the MET in New York, the first retrospective in the United States on the artist in over 40 years. The collection is exhibited at the MET Breuer, home of the MET dedicated to modern art, and traces the most characteristic traits of the artist's harmony, elegance and futuristic aesthetics. «Fontana's experimental ideas still have a strong echo on contemporary art. Fontana has challenged the ordinary and dedicated his career to the exploration of the concept of space and his artistic efforts in the pursuit of innovation" said the Ambassador of Italy to the United States Armando Varricchio. Innovation and creativity, distinctive traits of Fontana's artistic production, are also at the "center of the relations between Italy and the United States", the Ambassador continued.

In conjunction with the one at the MET, another exhibit "Spatial Explorations: Lucio Fontana and the Avant-garde in Milan in the 50's and 60's" opened its doors at the Italian Cultural Institute in New York. The selection of works, from the collection of Italian art of the 20th century of Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, traces the great artistic and creative season of post-war Italy, with particular reference to the movements established in the Lombard capital. Ambassador Varricchio, Consul General Genuardi, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Van Straten, and Michele Coppola, Director of Art Culture and Historical Heritage of Intesa Sanpaolo attended the inauguration.
