THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC, MARIA ELISABETTA ALBERTI CASELLATI, VISITS THE USA (WASHINGTON, 26-28 JUNE 2018).

The President of the Senate of the Republic, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, concluded yesterday afternoon the first part of her visit to the United States, which now will continue in New York.

The visit began on June 26 with a reception at Villa Firenze, the official residence of the Italian Ambassador to the United States, where the President met members of the US Administration, including the Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford.

On June 27, President Casellati took part in a series of meetings at the Supreme Court, where she met with U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Glover Roberts Jr. and with Judges Samuel Anthony Jr. Alito and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The visit also included talks in the US Congress. In the Senate, she met Sen. Orrin Hatch, the Majority leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, and the Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Foreign Relations, Sen. Bob Corker. Then, in the House of Representatives she met with the Minority leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi. In the morning of June 28, the President met the Italian-American Congressional Delegation, at the presence of the Co-Presidents, Rep. Bill Pascrell and Mark Amodei.

On 27 June, President Casellati took part in a reception organized at Villa Firenze by the Ambassador of Italy Armando Varricchio on the occasion of the inauguration of the "Women to Watch – Heavy Metal" exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, which features some artworks of the Italian artist Serena Porrati, born in Milan. In the evening, the President also attended the event "Inspiring the Future", organized by Snam at the Embassy of Italy in the framework of the World Gas Conference.

Before leaving for New York, on June 28, the President visited the Library of Congress and greeted the staff at the Embassy of Italy.
