#digitaldiplomacy to celebrate Italian National Day on June 2

In February, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, met the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, in Rome and launched the official profile of the President @Quirinale

During the meeting, they also announced #emptyquirinale, a new initiative to open the doors of the Quirinal Palace to the public and to mark the Italian Republic's seventieth birthday and Italy's National Day on June 2.

On May 21, some of the most famous Instagrammers from around the world visited the Quirinale Palace and took photos in order to highlight the artistic beauty, lesser-known aspects and institutional activities of the Quirinal Palace. A selection of these photographs will be shown, not only on the social network, but also in an installation at the Quirinal Palace itself.

To celebrate June 2nd and the 70th Festa della Repubblica, Italy's National Day, the Consulate General of Italy in Los Amgeles launched a #selfie contest on Twitter and Facebook to highlight the Italian artistic presence and the many testimonies of our cultural heritage in Los Angeles. Among the prizes, a trip to Rome!
