Symposium on “The Figurative Tradition in Italian Art” to be held at Meridian International Center

The symposium on “The Figurative Tradition in Italian Art”, will be held on Monday, May 21, 2007, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition ‘Spirit Into Shape: Contemporary Italian Sculpture,’ at Meridian International Center, 1630 Crescent Place, N.W., Washington DC 20009. The symposium will be held in Meridian House.  

The symposium will feature a panel discussion, including Renato Miracco, Curator of the exhibition; Oliviero Rainaldi and Luca Zanchi, two artists whose works are on view in the exhibit; Eleonora Luciano, Assistant Curator of Sculpture of The National Gallery of Art; Manfredi Piccolomini, former Cultural Director of the Foundation for Italian Art and Culture; and The Honorable Bruce Cole, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a distinguished scholar of the Italian Renaissance.

This symposium is free and open to the public. A reception with light refreshments will follow.   Meridian International Center gratefully acknowledges the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities in helping to make this exhibit possible.
