Italy and the United States boast a high degree of cooperation in the fields of science and technology. The legal foundation is set by the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation signed in Rome on April 1, 1988, which is subject to biennial review. The agreement covers the areas of greatest interest to both countries and all major agencies and research institutions. To view the current agreement, click here.

The Embassy of Italy in Washington, Office of Scientific and Technological Cooperation oversees these issues and is responsible for facilitating the internationalization of Italian research and for developing bilateral relations between the two countries.
