Seguso Vetri d’Arte “. 1397-2020. Six hundred years of Italian tradition and art on display at Villa Firenze.

Washington, October 22, 2020. The exhibition “Seguso Vetri d’Arte” was presented at Villa Firenze today. The exhibition, the latest of the “Artists in Residence” series, is dedicated to the artistic and craftsmanship tradition of Seguso, a world famous family-run company of Murano. Since 1397 Seguso has created some of  the most exclusive and appreciated works of art in glass.

On display 14 vases and a candelabra donated by Seguso to the Italian Embassy in Washington. True works of art, created with a skilful combination of ancient traditions and innovative techniques that have made it possible to shape Murano glass into eternal masterpieces. Masterpieces that enhance, through plays of light and reflections, the beauty of Villa Firenze. These works of art  will adorn Villa Firenze for future guests to admire.

In presenting the collection, Ambassador Varricchio recalled how, “Seguso’s artistic experience has been able to evolve and adapt to a world in constant change, continuously strengthening its deep ties with a unique artisan tradition that has its roots over the centuries.” Pierpaolo Seguso underlined how his family, which for generations has handed down the tradition of glass processing, believes it is fundamental “to put beauty first, to pay constant attention to detail and to transmit our passion to the new generations, knowing that we are temporary custodians of this magical tradition.”

Seguso is now present in the permanent collections of over 75 museums in the world. The exhibition is part of the “Artisti in Residenza” series of exhibitions launched by Ambassador Varricchio in June 2016 to give Italian talent an exceptional showcase in the American capital. The catalog of the “Seguso Vetri d’Arte” exhibition, available at this link, is embellished with a poem entitled “My Island” by Giampaolo Seguso.
